‘A History of Two Homes’ is a program designed for ethnic Irish people born in Ireland as well as their descendants who were born outside of Ireland, referred to as the Irish Diaspora. The goal is to provide a forum for families and friends to discuss, research, and learn about our shared histories and to deepen our understanding of our two homes on either side of the Atlantic Ocean. The second installment of this program is a compare and contrast of Irish traditional music and American bluegrass music.
Irish traditional music began as an oral tradition, passed on from generation to generation by listening, learning by ear and without formally writing the tunes on paper.
Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music that developed in the 1940s in the United States Appalachian region.
The history of bluegrass music begins with the people who migrated to America in the 1600s from Ireland, Scotland, and England and brought with them basic styles of music that are generally considered to be the roots of modern bluegrass music.
